Speaker: Galina Gheihman. Galina will be starting her Neurology residency at Partners in Boston this July. She’ll share work she led while a student at Harvard Medical School.
Session Description: “Boston RESILIENT: Narratives of Hope from Boston’s Opioid Crisis” is a photojournalism project developed by medical students at Harvard Medical School, whose purpose was to provide individuals affected by the opioid crisis an opportunity to share their perspectives with the public. The project educated students, engaged the community, and aspired to help change the narrative on substance use disorders. This session will review how student and community engagement, co-design, and community organizing principles led to the success of this initiative. We will share narratives of hope from amidst the epidemic; participants will then brainstorm how to apply these factors within their own institution and community settings to fight stigma and address substance use disorders and mental health.
